New Unimer Board Appointments

Lorcan Anglin and Tony Hogg join the Unimer Board

(1 May 2010) United Merchants plc, UK's largest merchant co-operative and leading clearing house for the trade industry has appointed Tony Hogg of GB Willbond Ltd and Lorcan Anglin of Pagets Builders Merchants Ltd.

Howard Grant, Managing Director of United Merchants plc, announced today the appointment of Tony Hogg and Lorcan Anglin as non-executive directors to the Unimer board as of the 1st May 2010.

Ron Walker of Heating Plumbing Supplies Ltd will be standing down from the Unimer Board at the end of April, as he wishes to cut back on his internal and external work commitments. Howard says: "Ron has been an excellent board member and has provided invaluable input on lightside issues in our board deliberations. We are sad to see him leave, and wish him well for the future".

To replace Ron Walker, Unimer has appointed two new Unimer directors;

Tony Hogg - Chairman and Managing Director, GB Willbond Ltd Established in 1896, Willbond now operates a total of 8 Plumbers Merchants and 4 Bathroom Centres in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire and employs 90 staff. The company is also a long standing member of the CBA Buying Group.

Tony joined the Company straight from school and in 1987 aged 33 years he led a Management Buyout of the business with backing from Venture capitalists 3i plc. Since that time he has bought out the venture capital and the business is now controlled by his family.

Married with 2 daughters Tony is also a Governor of a local 6th form College and a keen, if not a very good golfer.

Lorcan Anglin - Managing Director, Pagets Builders Merchant Ltd

Pagets is a long-established, family owned heavyside merchant, with two branches in Sheffield, and they have recently won an award for their newly developed Green Energy Centre.

 Lorcan is a native of Belfast and came to England to do a degree in engineering at UMIST.  After graduating, he joined RTZ and undertook various engineering and commercial projects in the UK and abroad.  He then joined Pagets Builders Merchants in Sheffield in 2001, where he is very involved in looking at the opportunities that the low carbon future might bring for his company and for merchants in general. Lorcan has been a member of the Unimer Heavyside Product Committee for some time and he also sits on the management committee of the H&B Buying Group. His pastimes include watching rugby (his sons mainly, rather than on the box) and playing golf badly.

Howard says: ‘We are delighted that Tony and Lorcan will join us on the 1st May 2010. With their vast experience of the construction products and merchant industry, we are sure they will contribute to the future of Unimer."

"The strengthening of our board is an essential factor in driving Unimer forward and further cementing our position as the leading clearing house for the trade industry. I am convinced Tony and Lorcan will play a key part in supporting our plans for future growth and I am delighted that we will be benefiting from their in-depth knowledge and experience of the industry."
